I improved my longest last friday using a 1990 model traditions hawken in 50 cal, shooting a sabot over 90 grains of goex FFg.
I was on the way over the knock the ice out of the watering trough and saw 4 standing in the field.
I pulled over, loaded by rifle, and walked around the corner of the building.
I looked and thought "I don't know if I can pull this one off"
Two were turned broad side feeding. the other two facing me.
It was far enough that the front sight covered the deer from the hip up past the shoulder.
I adjusted to where the sights were above the deer's back, covering part of the neck to the body at about the last rib. I squeezed. The shot went off, and it was far enough I that the rifle fired, and then I saw the bullet smack (it was windy, so the smoke blew away).
The deer stumbled and ran about 70 yards before piling up. It hit the deer center of mass which double lunged it. I guess the shot to be over 150 yards.
